Kentec Training has been granted accreditation by the British Abrasives Federation to provide operator training courses in the safe use of abrasive products.

As training providers, we undertake many Abrasive Wheels / Cut-Off Saw courses for a vast range of clients; this generally takes place at our training centre in Tonbridge or the client’s premises at a time to suit them.

The course will cover the following products:

  • Portable Angle Grinders fitted with cutting or grinding wheels
  • Portable Cut-Off Saws and Disc Cutters
  • Bench Top Cut-Off/Chop Saws
  • Bench and Pedestal Mounted Grinders

    Suitable for:

    This training course is suitable for all operators, managers and supervisors, who as part of their working duties select, mount, specify or use abrasive wheels as defined in PUWER Regulations 1998. The aim of the course is to enable candidates to work safely, to provide an understanding of current legislation and promote awareness of the dangers and hazards of abrasive wheels, and to offer practical steps to reduce workplace accidents and encourage workers to adopt a culture that results in a safer workplace.

    Course Objective:

    The course will enable delegates to ensure that safety issues are managed efficiently, protecting the workforce, other people and the general environment, and will ensure that legal compliance is achieved. Abrasive Wheels are used in many areas and can be highly dangerous if used by untrained personnel.

    The half day course (typically 8.30am to 12.30pm) covers the following topics:

    • Overview of Health and Safety Legislation inc HASAWA 1974, PUWER 98
    • Hazards, Risks and Risk Control Measures
    • Noise and HAVS Hazards
    • Accident Causation and Prevention
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Types of Abrasive Wheel Machines
    • Resin Bonded Abrasive Wheel Inspection - Types 27, 41 & 42 (inc practical exercise)
    • Flanges, Guards and Accessories
    • Pre-Use Machine Safety Checks
    • How to Mount of Abrasive Wheels on Angle Grinders, Chop Saws and Disc Cutters

    The full day course (typically 8.30am to 2.30pm) with the following topics:

      • Overview of Health and Safety Legislation inc HASAWA 1974, PUWER 98
      • Hazards, Risks and Risk Control Measures

        Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98)

        In relation to abrasive wheels, PUWER 98 requires, among other things, that all machinery is suitable for its intended use and is properly maintained, and that employees, including those using, mounting and managing the operation of abrasive wheels, are fully informed and properly trained in their safe use. PUWER 98 demands that not only those that change or mount abrasive wheels but also those that use, operate, manage and supervise the use of abrasive wheels must be trained as well.

        Duration:

        Half Day (Theory & Non-Live Practical) – typically 4 hours

        Full Day Courses (Theory & Non-Live Practical) - typically 6 hours

         

        Certification:

        This course is accredited by the British Abrasive Federation (BAF), and each candidate who successfully completes the course will receive a Kentec Training Photo ID Card and Certificate of Attendance.

        Our half day course is charged at just £82.50 + vat (£99.00 inc vat) per person and our full day course is charged at £125.00 + vat (£150.00 inc vat) per person and is inclusive of:

        • Refreshments (Tea/Coffee on half day and inclusive of Lunch on full day course)
