Course Overview:
As training providers, we undertake many Abrasive Wheels / Cut-Off Saw courses for a vast range of clients; this generally takes place at our training centre in Tonbridge or the client’s premises at a time to suit them.
The course will cover the following products:
- Portable Angle Grinders fitted with cutting or grinding wheels
- Portable Cut-Off Saws and Disc Cutters
- Bench Top Cut-Off/Chop Saws
- Bench Mounted Grinders

Suitable for:
This course is suitable for all operators, managers and supervisors, who as part of their working duties select, mount, specify or use abrasive wheels as defined in PUWER Regulations 1998. The aim of the course is to enable candidates to work safely, to provide an understanding of current legislation and promote awareness of the dangers and hazards of abrasive wheels, and to offer practical steps to reduce workplace accidents and encourage workers to adopt a culture that results in a safer workplace.
Course Objective:
The course will enable delegates to ensure that safety issues are managed efficiently, protecting the workforce, other people and the general environment, and will ensure that legal compliance is achieved. Abrasive Wheels are used in many areas and can be highly dangerous if used by untrained personnel.

- Hazards, Risks and Risk Control Measures
- Accident Causation and Prevention
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Types of Machines and Abrasive Wheels
- Noise and HAVS Hazards
- Pre-Use Abrasive Wheel and Machine Safety Checks
- Mounting of Abrasive Wheels
- Dressing, Truing and Balancing
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98)
In relation to abrasive wheels, PUWER 98 requires, among other things, that all machinery is suitable for its intended use and is properly maintained, and that employees, including those using, mounting and managing the operation of abrasive wheels, are fully informed and properly trained in their safe use. PUWER 98 demands that not only those that change or mount abrasive wheels but also those that use, operate, manage and supervise the use of abrasive wheels must be trained as well.

Half Day (Theory) – typically 4 hours
Certification:
This course is accredited by Kentec Training, and each candidate who successfully completes the course will receive a Kentec Training Photo ID Card and Certificate.

The cost of the course is £95.00 + vat per person (Half Day) and is inclusive of:
