Our IPAF MEWP Instructor Course is designed for experienced MEWP operators who wish to qualify as IPAF instructors and deliver IPAF’s industry-leading training programmes for mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).
In order to deliver IPAF Operator training courses, you must either be employed by an accredited IPAF Training Centre or register as an IPAF Independent Instructor Member, delivering training on behalf of an accredited centre.
To be eligible for an IPAF MEWP Instructor Course, candidates must have achieved:
Since the inspection, operation and use of MEWPs can be physically demanding, candidates should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights / vertigo, giddiness / difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.
If you have any problems with literacy or language comprehension or have any doubts about your fitness to use an MEWP, you must bring them to the attention of your employer. This need not preclude you from using MEWPs, provided your employer conducts an assessment and is able to put into place adequate measures, to take account of any difficulties you may have.
The agenda of the IPAF MEWP Instructor Course includes:
Day 1 – Programme Induction and Initial Assessment
- MEWP Theory Test
- Practical Assessment on a Scissor lift & Boom (3A/3B)
- Presentation Preparation
Day 2 – Introduction to IPAF Training
- 30-minute presentation on a chosen MEWP subject (Assessed)
- Daily Planning Session
- Overview of IPAF Training Programmes
- Introduction to IPAF Operator Courses
- IPAF Operator Practical Procedures
- Operator Practical Demonstration & Assessment
Day 3 – IPAF Operator Course Delivery
- Candidate-led IPAF Operator theory session
- Scissor lift & Boom (3A/3B) Operation Training
- Course Administration and Documentation
- Development of CPD Plan and Log
Day 4 – Candidate Presentations and Practical Demonstrations
- Individual Candidate Presentations
- Practical Demonstration Activities
Day 5 – Final Assessment and Examination
- Final Assessment with an IPAF-appointed examiner
After successfully completing the IPAF MEWP Instructor Course, successful candidates will then be eligible to move onto the final stage required by IPAF
before achieving your instructor qualification; 4 days mentoring by a Senior
IPAF Instructor.
