Our IPAF MEWP Instructor Mentoring Programme
provides structured guidance, feedback and evaluation to IPAF MEWP instructor candidates
to ensure they meet the standards, skills and knowledge required to confidently
deliver IPAF MEWP training courses to learners as well as achieve their IPAF Instructor
license.
During these four mentoring
sessions, the instructor candidate will begin by observing & shadowing
their mentor (a senior IPAF Instructor), then progressing to supported course delivery,
culminating on the final day in the assessment of the delivery of a full IPAF
Operator course independently, and with no assistance or support, ensuring the instructor
candidate can facilitate a full IPAF Operator course competently and within the
course guidelines.
The dates for these
mentoring sessions are arranged between the IPAF instructor candidate and our
support team, available on 0333 666 0555.
To be eligible for IPAF MEWP Instructor Mentoring,
candidates must provide:
- Evidence
of having successfully completed an IPAF MEWP Instructor Course within the
last 6 months. If it is not completed within this timescale, then the instructor
candidate will need to retake the course once again.
This mentoring programme is aimed at instructor candidates
who have successfully passed their IPAF MEWP Instructor Course to
complete the mandatory mentoring sessions required to become a fully qualified
IPAF instructor and receive their instructor license.
The agenda of the IPAF MEWP Instructor Mentoring includes:
Day 1 – Mentor Observation & Shadowing
The Instructor Candidate observes and shadows their IPAF
Mentor (a senior IPAF instructor) facilitating a full IPAF Operator Course,
including both the theory and practical sessions. The Senior IPAF Instructor
may ask the Instructor Candidate to assist in the practical. A full debriefing will
be offered at the end of the day.
Day 2 – Supported Delivery – Theory & Practical
The IPAF Instructor Candidate will deliver the theory and
practical sessions of a full IPAF Operator Course. The senior IPAF instructor
will offer full support where necessary to ensure all course criteria and
guidelines are met, with a full debriefing offered at the end of the day.
Day 3 – Supported Delivery – Theory & Practical
The IPAF Instructor Candidate will once again deliver the
theory and practical sessions of a full IPAF Operator Course - integrating any
feedback received from their IPAF mentor into their course delivery. The senior
IPAF instructor will offer full support where necessary to ensure all course criteria
and guidelines are met, with a full debriefing offered at the end of the day.
Day 4 – Independent Delivery & Assessment
The IPAF Instructor Candidate will deliver the theory and
practical sessions of a full IPAF Operator Course independently, with no
support from their mentor. The senior IPAF instructor will be assessing the
candidate’s ability to facilitate a full IPAF Operator course competently and
within the course guidelines.
A final debriefing session will be offered at the end of the
assessed IPAF operator course confirming as to whether the instructor candidate
has successfully completed the mentoring process or if they require further
mentored sessions.
Once your mentor has signed you off as having completed your
mentoring programme successfully, instructor candidates will receive an IPAF MEWP
Instructor e-certificate, valid for a period of 5 years from the date of the final
mentoring session.
Successful instructors can access their e-certification
through the free IPAF ePAL smartphone app, available on both iOS and Android.
You will also be able to verify your certification via the PAL Card Checker once
your licence number is issued.
Please note - in order to deliver IPAF training courses for
MEWPs, you need to be employed by an IPAF training centre or
become registered as an IPAF independent instructor member.
