Course Overview

Our IPAF Operator (3A & 3B - eLearning) Course delivers a minimum of 7 hours of instruction, providing training to prepare and safely operate the following MEWPs:

  • Mobile Vertical (Scissorlift)
  • Mobile Boom (Cherrypicker)

The elearning module delivers flexibility and interactive learning tools, with the same emphasis on practical training. Delegates can complete the elearning at their own pace, anywhere and on any device. The module is compatible with PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones on any modern internet browser - although we have found the most success using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

Delegates can then organise to attend a training centre where the theory test and practical assessment of each MEWP can be undertaken.

Operator eLearning does not replace practical training. Trainees who complete the online session must still pass a supervised theory test and a minimum half-day of practical training and testing before being issued a PAL Card as proof of successfully completed operator training.

This course consists of an elearning module, written assessment, practical training and assessment.

This course is suitable for any delegate who requires an IPAF Powered Access Licence (PAL) Card, but wants the flexibility to complete the theory portion of the course at their own pace and in their own environment.

This is also an alternative to the full one day classroom session. Delegates will only be required to attend the training centre to carry out their theory test and practical assessment.

Similarly, since the inspection, operation and use of MEWPs can be physically demanding, users should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights / vertigo, giddiness / difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.

If you have any problems with literacy or language comprehension, or have any doubts about your fitness to use an MEWP, you must bring them to the attention of your employer. This need not preclude you from using MEWPs, provided your employer conducts an assessment and is able to put into place adequate measures, to take account of any difficulties you may have.

Operatives will gain understanding of current relevant legislation and regulations, accident prevention & control, needs regarding personnel protection, the need to refer to machine operating manuals and the driving/maneuvering of MEWPs safely in order to position and carry out the required tasks in a correct and proper manner.

From 1st June 2021, Kentec Training will be registering all delegates through the IPAF Digital Card License Application (ePAL) system. This is inclusive within the course price.

For a physical copy of the PAL Card and A4 Certificate, this will incur an additional charge of £7.50 + vat per delegate. Please ensure this is requested prior to the course date, otherwise it will be treated as a replacement certificate at £30.00 + vat each.

Successful operatives will gain an understanding of current legislation and best practice on a range of MEWPs; including carrying out a pre-use inspection and safe operation in line with approved methods and the manufacturer's instructions. The course agenda includes:

eLearning Module:

  • Introduction to IPAF and MEWPs
