Our BAF Abrasive Wheels Precision Bonded Course delivers a minimum of 6 hours of instruction and is designed to teach up to a maximum of 12 delegates, providing focused training on the use of abrasive wheels on precision machinery such as Cylindrical, Surface, Centreless and Internal Grinders.
The aim of this course is to enable candidates to work safely, to provide an understanding of current legislation and promote awareness of the dangers and hazards of abrasive wheels, and to offer practical steps to reduce workplace accidents and encourage workers to adopt a culture that results in a safer workplace.
This course consists of a training room lecture, presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.
The BAF Abrasive Wheels Precision Bonded Course is intended for those who operate, supervise or manage the use of precision abrasive wheels on surface grinders, centreless grinders, bench and pedestal grinders. There are no prerequisites for this course, although an understanding of abrasive wheels and the use of precision bonded abrasive wheel machine would be an advantage.
This course focuses on the abrasive wheel, it's safe use, mounting, truing and dressing and not on the operation of surface grinders, centreless grinders, bench and pedestal grinders and is facilitated by an approved BAF (British Abrasive Federation) instructor.
The agenda of the Abrasive Wheels Precision Bonded course includes:
- An overview of Health and Safety Legislation inc HASWA 74, PUWER 98, MHSWR 99, PPER 92
- The hazards, Risks and Risk Control Measures including Contact, Wheel Burst, Noise, Respiratory and HAVS Hazards
- The recommended Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- The types of Precision Abrasive Wheel Machines and their safe use.
- Bonded Abrasive Wheel Selection, Identification and Inspection
- The correct use, setting, adjustment and inspection of flanges, guards and accessories
- Correct Pre-Use Machine Safety Checks
- How to Mount of Abrasive Wheels on Bench/Pedestal Grinders
- How to dress and true an abrasive wheel
Successful delegates will receive a Kentec Training Abrasive Wheels Precision Bonded e-certification accredited by the British Abrasives Federation (BAF) valid for a period of 3 years from the date of the course.

No. There is no live practical on this course in which the abrasive wheel is utilised.
No. As this is a classroom-based course, you are not required to bring any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). For certain training sessions, temporary equipment such as safety harnesses may be provided if required.
Yes, we can absolutely offer you support. We understand that everyone learns differently, and we’re committed to making our courses accessible to all. Our instructors are experienced in delivering training to individuals with varying levels of reading and writing ability.
