Our Powertool Safety Principles & Practice course delivers a minimum of 7 hours of instruction and is designed to teach up to a maximum of 12 delegates, providing training to help individuals to work safely, understand current legislation and promote awareness of the dangers and hazards of portable power tools. The course is industry specific (construction/engineering/ carpentry) and the range of power tools covered can be tailored to suit your needs.
Employers must ‘ensure that all persons who use work equipment have received adequate training for the purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using work equipment, and risks which such use may entail and the precautions to be taken’ (PUWER regulation 9). There is a similar duty to ensure adequate training in relation to supervisory and managerial staff.
Delegates who also use Abrasive Wheels on a regular basis, may benefit from attending our Portable Powertools and Abrasive Wheel Safety Course.
Please note that there is no live practical on this course. For onsite courses, a live practical session is only available if all safety measures are in place at the site.
This course consists of a training room lecture, presentation, written assessment, powered/live practical training and assessment.
The Powertool Safety Principles Course will benefit individuals involved with using, supervising or managing the use of portable power tools both commercially and privately. The course is industry specific (construction/engineering/carpentry) and the range of power tools covered can be tailored to suit your needs if you require specific tools to be covered.
Once the course is booked, please provide a list of the power tools you wish to be covered on the course. In order to provide practical exercises on each machine, a maximum of 6 machines will be allowed.
Since the safe use of power tools require that delegates consult safety notices and read and thoroughly understand the manufacturer’s instruction manual, English literacy and language comprehension at CEFR Levels C1/C2 are important requirements for any user.

Successful delegates will receive a Powertool Safety Principles & Practice e-certification accredited by Kentec Training valid for a period of 3 years from the date of the course. Delegates will gain an understanding of the regulations covering the use of work equipment, the hazards arising from the use of work equipment, precautions to be taken, workplace checks, end-user safety checks, personal checks, machine checks and how machines are guarded.

While there is a practical element of this course, in which delegates will handle and inspect a wide range of portable powertools, please note that there is no live practical on this course in which the powertool is utilised. For onsite courses, a live practical session is only available if all safety measures are in place at the site. It is ultimately down to the instructor's discretion if these measures are met.
No. As this is a classroom-based course, you are not required to bring any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). For certain training sessions, temporary equipment such as safety harnesses may be provided if required.
