The aim of this Powertool Safety Principles Course is to enable candidates to work safely, to provide an understanding of current legislation and promote awareness of the dangers and hazards of powertools, and to offer practical steps to reduce workplace accidents and encourage workers to adopt a culture that results in a safer workplace.

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998

Employers must ‘ensure that all persons who use work equipment have received adequate training for the purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using work equipment, and risks which such use may entail and the precautions to be taken.’ (PUWER regulation 9). There is a similar duty to ensure adequate training in relation to supervisory and managerial staff.

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to state the regulations covering the use of work equipment, have a good understanding of the hazards arising from the use of work equipment, precautions to be taken, workplace checks, end-user safety checks, personal checks, machine checks and how machines are guarded.
