UKATA Asbestos Awareness Course

Our approved UKATA Asbestos Awareness Course delivers a minimum of 4 hours of instruction and is designed for those who need a basic understanding of asbestos and its potential risks.

Candidates who are responsible for the repair and maintenance of commercial property will be able to identify and deal with asbestos, and meet their legal ‘duty to manage’. Exemption from this requirement for training, only applies when it can be demonstrated that the working environment is free from all asbestos-containing materials (ACM’s.)

All of our asbestos trainers are UKATA (United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association) registered trainers and they’re able to provide Asbestos Awareness Training in line with HSE guidelines.

Our instructors also hold professional teaching certificates from CIEH (Chartered Institute of Environmental Health)and BOHS ( British Occupational Hygiene Society) P405 qualifications, so you are assured of the very highest standards of instruction.

  • Course Duration: Half Day, usually 8:30pm to 12:30pm

Who Should Attend

Those people at risk include; general maintenance staff, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters etc., caretakers, roofers and scaffolders, shop fitters, telecom engineers, computer engineers, building surveyors, fire and burglar alarm installers, construction workers, heating and ventilation engineers. It is estimated that over two million work places contain asbestos, which remains the single biggest cause of work related deaths in the UK.

Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2006 states that ‘Those persons who are liable to be exposed to asbestos whilst carrying out their normal everyday work should undergo Asbestos Awareness Training’.

  • The properties of asbestos and its effects on health.
  • The types of products of materials likely to contain asbestos.
  • The operations which could result in asbestos exposure and the importance of preventive controls to minimize exposure.
  • Managers responsibilities (how to protect workers and avoid prosecution)
  • Role of asbestos surveys and how to understand what is in them (what you can and can’t do).
  • The purpose, choice, limitations, proper use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment.
  • Emergency procedures (how to deal with an asbestos incident)
