The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety course is one of the UK’s most popular and respected health and safety qualifications. Offering a valuable overview of the core aspects of occupational health and safety, the course provides an excellent platform for individuals who are looking to build upon their knowledge and skills and take their career forward. This course delivers a minimum of 68 hours of instruction to a maximum of 18 delegates.
Over the course of 10 Days, delegates will receive expert classroom instruction covering essential topics such as risk assessment, health and safety law, hazard identification, and control measures, all designed to prepare them for the challenges of real-world safety management. Following the classroom training, delegates have the opportunity to attend an optional revision day on Day 11, providing additional support to reinforce their knowledge and ensure they feel fully prepared for the final assessment. The course culminates in an Open Book Exam (OBE) on Day 12, which allows delegates to demonstrate their understanding of health and safety practices by applying their knowledge to real-life scenarios.
Participants will gain a thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation and its practical applications during the course. They will learn how to spot workplace hazards and how to prevent them, as well as to assist in your company’s safety management programme. The course results in a real return on investment by giving you the know-how that could help you to reduce insurance and sickness-absence costs, improve staff morale, behaviours and minimise the potential for prosecution or other enforcement action. Our instructor will provide homework for each delegate to be completed and will coach learners through the course, providing understanding of content as well as how to practically apply the knowledge to their own workplace environment. This means when learners complete the course, they are confident their new knowledge can be used in real life scenarios they may encounter.
An open book examination will be required to be completed by learners in their own chosen space (e.g. workplace or home). Learners will have 24 hours to complete their paper where they will be presented with a scenario that describes a realistic workplace and situation. Learners will then be asked to carry out a series of tasks using the evidence presented in the scenario as well as their knowledge gained throughout the course. After the open book exam is completed, your instructor will conduct a closing interview to discuss your answers. Learners will also complete a practical risk assessment and develop and action plan for their workplace.
Guidance for the NG2 Risk Assessment module is available from NEBOSH.
This course consists of training room lectures, presentation, an optional revision session, an Open Book Examination (OBE), and a workplace project.

At Kentec Training, we are committed to ensuring all learners have fair and equal access to NEBOSH assessments. Our approach follows NEBOSH’s “Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments Policy,” which ensures no learner is placed at an unfair disadvantage or advantage. We can support learners with special educational needs, disabilities, or temporary injuries by providing access arrangements such as a reader, scribe, or word processor. For learners with disabilities under the Equality Act 2010, reasonable adjustments - like a Braille paper for visually impaired candidates - can be arranged.
If you need to apply for access arrangements or reasonable adjustments, please contact our support team directly. We will guide you through the process and submit the application to NEBOSH on your behalf. You will receive confirmation of your arrangements prior to your assessment. If the adjustments do not meet your needs, please contact us immediately so we can review your application and make any necessary changes.
You can also download NEBOSH’s full 'Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments Policy' for more information.
If your request falls in line with NEBOSH’s Refund Policy and Procedure, you can apply for a refund from NEBOSH of up to 70% of your examination registration fee. Refund claims must be made within one calendar month following the date of the examination by completing the appropriate refund request form. The refund will then be processed within 30 working days of the request being received and the fee will be refunded by NEBOSH to the original payment method.

Regardless of your chosen learning method, both formats cover the same content and lead to the same qualification.
