Our L.A Stepladder & Step Stools User & Inspection Course delivers a minimum of 7 hours of instruction and is designed to instruct up to a maximum of 8 delegates, providing training for users, supervisors and managers wanting to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to use and formally inspect step ladders and step stools legally and safely. Written with the guidance from the UK's leading experts on ladder manufacture, maintenance and safety, the Ladder Association scheme addresses all the issues raised by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and, more recently, the Work and Height Regulations 2005.
Under the regulations every person in the chain leading up to, and including, the final user, has a duty of care to both themselves and others to know and understand the practical implications of working safety at height. Demonstration of competence is a key requirement of the new regulations and successful completion of the L.A Stepladder & Step Stool User & Inspection Course provides proof of such competence.
This course consists of a training room lecture, presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.
This course is aimed at personnel who are or will be responsible for use and formal inspection of step ladders and step stools in the work place. There are no prerequisites required for this course although a working knowledge of ladders and stools is an advantage.
Since the safe use of step ladders and step stools requires that delegates consult safety notices and read and thoroughly understand the manufacturer’s instruction manual, English literacy and language comprehension are important requirements for any ladder user. In addition, delegates should be fit and capable of lifting and carrying step ladders and step stools.
Please note that delegates will be expected to work at height whilst climbing either step ladders and step stools for the practical, so please ensure delegates are in good health and do not have a fear of heights that may preclude them from taking part in the practical assessment.
The agenda for the L.A Step Ladder and Step Stools User & Inspection course includes:
- When it’s right to use a stepladder or step stool
- How to select and safely use stepladder and step stools
- The law/standards relating to stepladder and step stools
- The hazards in the use of stepladder and step stools
- Safe storage and handling of stepladder and step stools
- When it’s right to inspect a stepladder or step stool
- How to carry out a formal inspection, record faults and what to do if faults are found.
Successful delegates will receive a Ladder Association Step Ladder & Step Stools User & Inspection e-certification valid for a period of 5 years from the date of the course.
