Course Overview

Our NPORS Lorry Loader Experienced Worker Test (EWT) Course delivers a half-day practical assessment, with no additional theory or practical instruction, and is designed to accommodate up to a maximum of 4 tests. Successful delegates will gain a renewed qualification that will meet the legal requirements laid out by UK regulatory bodies to show they are competent in the safe preparation, operation and precise manoeuvring of Lorry Loader cranes.

In order to attend this course, you must hold the following:

  • A valid UK Passport or Driving Licence.
  • Proof of your valid NPORS Lorry Loader Operators Card.

These will need to be presented to the instructor on the day. This is a requirement of NPORS.

This course consists of a practical assessment only.

This course is for operational site use which is aimed at those who already have a valid, in-date certification and wish to renew their qualification for an additional 3-5 years, depending on the chosen certification route.

Since the operation of this machinery can be physically demanding, delegates must be fit and able to carry out the tasks required in the course program. A good understanding of spoken and written English is required.

Successful delegates will receive an NPORS Lorry Loader Operators Card, which is valid for 3-5 years, depending on the chosen certification route.

By the end of the course, the delegates will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Their industry, the dangers of working in that industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturers handbook and other sources of information, regulations and legislation applicable to the particular machine to be used
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the vehicle and loader crane and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify all operating controls and explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements
  • Configure the vehicle and loader crane ready for travel
  • Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out lifting duties
  • Correctly deploy the stabilisers according to stated specifications
  • Comply with all requirements for Rated Capacity Indicators or Load Moment Indicators
  • Identify weights and centres of gravity of loads to be used
  • Carry out lifting operations using the full capabilities of the loader crane
  • Position loads accurately at designated locations including onto and from the vehicles
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
