This course is suitable for anyone who needs an awareness of how to control and manage dust within the workplace. This can include demolition, fit out, excavation works, site clearance, ground works, filling, joinery, painting, landscaping and plastering.
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a Kentec E- Certificate of Training valid for 3 years.
The course agenda covers the following information:
- The main types of construction dust
- What construction dust is and how it is classified, to include: silicia dust, wood dust, manganese dust, other lower toxicity dusts
- Health risks to those breathing in construction dust - primary and secondary effects
- Legislation regarding exposure to construction dust
- Assessing risks of exposure to construction dust associated with work and materials - taking into consideration the work task, area, duration and frequency of the work task, risk assessments etc.
- Controlling risks of exposure to construction dust associated with work and materials
- Dust suppression, dust extraction, including LEV and on-tool extraction
- The use of respiratory protective equipment (RPE)
- Other controls, maintenance and cleaning of equipment
- Reviewing controls - reviewing training requirements, procedures and methods of work, checks and monitoring of dust levels and health surveillance programmes
